Clayesmore School
Reviews | News | Alumni School ProfileClayesmore is one of the independent school world's best kept secrets. In its own magical way it has been providing an increasingly excellent education to its boys and girls in the glorious heart of Dorset for over 100 years.
Undoubtedly, part of the magic lies in the beauty of the surroundings but it lies chiefly in the happiness and warmth of the place and of the relationship between the adults and the young people who make up the modern Clayesmore. For parents seeking a truly family school, Clayesmore is one of the few boarding schools in the UK where Prep (7-13) and Senior (13-18) pupils share the same campus. So, siblings can stay together and enjoy the security of seeing each other as they come and go about their busy lives.
Whilst the two schools at Clayesmore share some of the major facilities such as the Sports Centre and pool, squash and badminton courts, gymnasia, the theatre, the chapel and the dining hall, Clayesmore Prep has its own purpose-built classrooms, laboratories, art studio and boarding house, and is run by its own IAPS Head. It has a long and proud tradition of excellence in the pastoral care of its boarders numbering 60-70 boys and girls.
The senior school at Clayesmore has enjoyed very considerable success and progress in the last six years or so and this is reflected by the increase in pupil numbers from 300-400. Vitally, Clayesmore is a small school at heart (230 are boarders) and that is the way it is staying! Academic results have burgeoned hugely in recent years, yet Clayesmore tries not to be too selective on purpose. A 60% A&B pass rate at A-level demonstrates that its many academic pupils can be catered for. Of equal importance is Clayesmore's ability to obtain the absolute best from those who don't find the work as approachable as others.
Senior and Prep Schools offer a tremendous variety of sporting, dramatic and musical opportunity and are well-equipped to do so. How super to see the 2007 edition of Wisden listing Clayesmore as the 20th most successful cricketing school last season!
Let yourself in on the secret of Clayesmore - two lovely, genuinely happy schools where every child is known and has his or her part to play - two lovely schools who for generations have believed in success without pressure with a seamless, uncomplicated transfer from one to the other.
