'We believe we are a leading school because we provide each child with the opportunity to be the best possible version of himself.'
We are an independent prep school with a national reputation for academic, musical, artistic and sporting excellence. Although about a third of the boys leaving us transfer to Dulwich College, in the last four years alone boys have gone on to succeed at more than 50 other excellent day and boarding schools throughout the country. Alleyn's, Charterhouse, Eton College, Marlborough, Tonbridge, St Paul's, Wellington College, Westminster and Winchester College are just a selection of our leavers' destination schools.
While the Prep is essentially a boys' school, with about 850 pupils aged between 3 and 13, we start with the Nursery which also caters for girls. There are three other distinct sections of the school: the Annexe, the Lower School and the Upper School. In addition we have a very well equipped boarding house and are delighted to offer weekly boarding as an option.
Our ongoing programme of building work ensures that our pupils have access to the very best facilities. In recent years we have upgraded our Nursery department to a state of the art facility and have built a new sports hall complex. Our Year One and Two classrooms are undergoing extensive remodelling as are our ICT suites. The swimming pool and both of our cricket pavilions have been refurbished and we have installed new drainage systems on much of our 25 acres of playing fields.
The real purpose of the Prep is to help to prepare every boy for the future. This is not just academically, but physically, emotionally, culturally and socially. It is difficult to summarise the school's aims and ethos in just a few words. Nevertheless, the following points outline our guiding philosophy.
We provide the boys with opportunities. Opportunity leads to enthusiasm, enthusiasm to understanding, and understanding to choice.
We provide each child with the opportunity to be the best possible version of himself.
Some of these opportunities are listed below.
Around thirty-five percent of our leavers win scholarships each year.
We run more than twenty-five sports teams each term with the top teams regularly doing well in national competitions. Recent sports tours include cricket to South Africa, football to Spain and Dubai and rugby to Southwest France
More than 600 individual music lessons take place every week.
Approaching 30 musical groups perform in our own concert hall. Many also appear on the programme for our gala concerts at prestigious venues such as The Royal Festival Hall and The London Palladium. Music tours include the Big Band's visit to South Africa and the Orchestra's trip to the Alsace.
Pupils will experience at least four residential trips within the curriculum as they move through the school. There are another 12 visits on offer as optional holiday trips.
Photographic work produced by boys in the Lower School has been displayed at The London Assembly building, The Apothecaries' Hall, Wilton's Theatre, the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and the London Transport Museum.
Drama productions are staged annually from Reception to Year Six as well as a full scale Upper School play in the spring.
In conclusion the Prep is a boys' school FOR the boys.
