The school was established in 1978 at Wicklewood, near Wymondham in Norfolk. It grew rapidly and moved to Finborough Hall in mid Suffolk in 1980.

The school has developed steadily, providing traditional education with a strong emphasis on pastoral care which enables pupils to build on their strengths and find support for their weaknesses. This means that while good academic results are important, personal and social values are developed through many aspects of school life.
