Frank Marchbank founded Mowden Hall Preparatory School in Darlington in 1935. He moved the school to Fallbarrow, Windermere at the start of the war before acquiring the present stunning site near Newcastle in 1945.
Over half a century later Mowden Hall is one of the leading preparatory schools in the country. We have been co-educational for over twenty years and, more recently, have incorporated thriving pre-prep and nursery departments. We have extensive new facilities and have also developed a close association with Cothill House over the use of the Chateau de Sauveterre, near Toulouse, where all children now spend a term during Year Seven.
