Queen Anne's is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18 years. The school's origins date back to 1698, when the Grey Coat Hospital Trust was founded to educate children in London's Westminster district. A few years later a Foundation Charter was granted by Queen Anne and in 1894, part of the endowment was used to create a boarding school in Caversham. Queen Anne's still retains its connection with Westminster, and regularly has its own service in Westminster Abbey. Since 1894 Queen Anne's has grown and prospered and become a well known and well loved school, producing confident, well-rounded girls with enthusiasm for learning and a can-do attitude.
Facilities
The school has fantastic facilities set in a grounds of 35 acres, north of the River Thames in Reading. A large sports centre includes squash courts, a fitness suite, mirrored dance studio, climbing wall and a separate large indoor swimming pool. A Performing Arts Centre has a green room, light and sound control room, drama and music practice rooms and a fabulous 250 seat theatre. A seven-laboratory Science Centre opened in 2006 and a new seven-studio Art & Design Centre, with art, ceramic, textiles, 3D design studios and photographic facilities officially opened in October 2008.
Boarding and day
The school has a welcoming boarding and day community and strong pastoral care. It offers established education within a modern curriculum and girls are able to take full advantage of leadership and learning opportunities within a secure environment. Both academic and extra-curricular achievements are excellent and the girls lead very full lives, which prepare them to go on to leading universities and successful careers. Full and flexi boarding packages are available and school transport is provided to a wide surrounding area.
