School Profile

It is our aim at Sandroyd that days spent at prep school should be exciting, stimulating, rewarding and fun. Here we offer all the children peaks that can just be climbed with higher ones for tomorrow. Wherever their talents lie, we strive to develop them to the full and thus help them to make their way into the competitive world with confidence, assurance and well-founded self-belief.

Our experience comes from a long and illustrious history as a boarding school since our foundation in 1888. With the introduction of day pupils, co-education and a pre-prep, The Walled Garden, we have responded positively to the ever-changing demands and expectations of new generations of parents and children. We are now pleased to be able to make the unique Sandroyd experience available to boys and girls over a wide age range.

We are proud of our academic success at both Scholarship and Common Entrance level. The Honours Boards tell a consistent tale of excellence in examinations, with academic awards in recent years to many leading Public Schools, including Eton, Radley, Sherborne and Bryanston. Awards for Art, drama, music, sport and all-round ability have also been gained and we are excited at the prospect of opening a new theatre to complement and enhance the quality of our musical and dramatic productions. The dedicated Learning Support Unit provides valuable back-up, reinforcing class work, offering learning strategies and generally giving help and advice on a one-to-one basis. A 100% record of Common Entrance passes to first-choice schools is a testament to the emphasis we place on individual achievement.

Sandroyd is about much more than academic success, however. Given our extensive grounds and superb facilities there are countless opportunities for all the pupils to enjoy and develop their favourite sports and to try out new hobbies and activities under expert coaching and guidance. There is literally something to appeal to everyone, not only during the week and in the evenings but also at weekends. A busy programme of fixtures with local schools aims to involve as many of the children as possible on a consistent basis each term.

Any school thrives on everyone living together in harmony and working towards shared goals. Yet the hopes and aspirations of the individual are never allowed to take second place. Pastoral care is one of Sandroyd's special strengths. Each child has a personal Tutor who is responsible for monitoring academic progress, seeing that out-of-class hours are spent profitably and generally being a first port of call when life doesn't quite go according to plan!

Every parent wants and expects the very best for their child. At Sandroyd we can offer experience, enthusiasm and expertise, all in a safe, natural and welcoming environment. Our beautiful, rural location gives each child the space and the opportunity to grow up and develop at their own pace away from unwelcome pressures but with that sense of purpose which will give them all an invaluable platform for the years ahead.
