'We believe we are a leading school because we are able to give all our students the individual help and support that they deserve. We are a CReSTeD category SP school and have expert provision for a wide range of specific learning difficulties.'
Stanbridge Earls School was founded in 1952. Its original aim was to provide a boarding education for pupils who could not cope in large schools, and for those who had previously missed schooling due to illness, school phobia and bad experiences in other schools.
In the mid-1970s the first literacy unit was set up by two teachers whose sons had been diagnosed with 'word-blindness'. By 1980 there were a dozen teachers providing one-to-one lessons in literacy and a separate numeracy skills unit had been set up.
Stanbridge Earls has evolved into a very special, small school with a teacher to pupil ratio around 1 to 7 offering a full range of subjects up to Advanced Level. There are now specialist areas for occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, English as an additional language and life skills, as well as literacy and numeracy.
We offer on-site support for students with ability who have difficulties in accessing the curriculum due to dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia or mild Asperger's syndrome or who have a combination of these difficulties. The structure and ethos of the school is also able to support those students who could not survive in a large school environment or whose education has been interrupted.
The Curriculum
Students follow the National Curriculum.
All Year 10 students take Mathematics, English and Science and up to four other GCSE subjects depending on each pupil's one-to-one lessons.
Sixth Form students choose from a wide range of Advanced Level and City and Guild subjects. Pupils do not need to have passed GCSE English or Mathematics but should have obtained grade 'C's in four or more GCSE subjects.
After School
We have a wide range of sporting and non-sporting after-school activities including competitive team sports for girls and boys. The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme has a high profile as do the orchestra, performing arts and art.
There is a school wide ICT access for students, including all boarding accommodation.
Pastoral Care
The School operates a multi-layer care system involving House parents, House tutors, Housemasters and Housemistresses. A daily Headmaster's staff briefing ensures that problems are communicated and dealt with quickly.
The Grounds
The School is situated on the edge of The New Forest. At the heart of our campus is an ancient manor house dating back to 857AD. It is surrounded by 50 acres of landscaped gardens, woodland and lakes; a beautiful and tranquil environment in which to live, learn and make life-long friends.
