Woodleigh is a preparatory boarding and day school for children between the ages of three and thirteen. It was founded in 1929 in Hessle near Hull, by the late Arthur England, grandfather of the present Headmaster. In 1946 it moved to its present location at Langton Hall, south of Malton, in the middle of the beautiful countryside of the Yorkshire Wolds; a memorable and magnificent setting for any child's education.
The School is run as a Private Limited Company (#2804218) whose Directors form the Governing Body. The School is a part of the Independent Schools' Council (ISC) and is accredited by the Independent Schools' Inspectorate (ISI). The School is a member of the Council for the Registration of Schools Teaching Dyslexics (CreSTeD).
Our children are motivated, challenged and have every opportunity to discover for themselves. They experience satisfaction and success from the multi-sensory teaching and child-centred classroom. Work is collaborative and co-operative. The children's ideas are valued and accepted and the quality of the relationship between the staff and the children is reflected in their successful learning.
Individual tailored education is offered through Individual Education Plans, for all children of all abilities. Woodleigh caters for children of all abilities; not only is there provision for Dyslexia Dyspraxia, and Dyscalculia, but also support for gifted musicians, sports players and academic Scholarship Candidates.
